Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; It is not a matter of rosy cheeks,
red lips and supple knees; It is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination,
a vigor of the emotions; It is the freshness of the deep springs of life.

청춘이란 인생의 어느 기간이 아니라 마음가짐을 말한다.
장밋빛 볼, 붉은 입술, 나긋나긋한 무릎이 아니라
씩씩한 의지, 풍부한 상상력, 불타오르는 정열을 가리킨다.
인생이라는 깊은 샘의 신선함을 이르는 말이다.
 
 
 
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite, 
for adventure over the love of ease.
This often exists in a man of sixty more than a boy of twenty. 
Nobody grows old merely by a number of years.
We grow old by deserting our ideals.

청춘이란 두려움을 넘어서는 용기,
안락함을 초월하는 모험심을 뜻한다.
때로는 20세 청년보다도 60세 노인에게 청춘이 존재한다.
나이를 더해가는 것만으로 사람은 늙지 않는다.
이상을 버릴 때 비로소 늙는다.
 
 
 
Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
Worry, Fear, self-distrust, bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

세월은 피부에 주름을 새기지만,
열정을 잃으면 영혼이 주름진다.
고뇌, 공포, 실망에 의해서 기력은 땅을 기고
영혼은 먼지로 변해버린다.
 
 
 
Whether sixty or sixteen there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonder,
the unfailing child-like appetite of what's next, and the joy of the game of living.
In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station;
so long as it receives massages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage 
and power from men and from the infinite,so long are you young.
 

60세든 16세든 인간의 가슴 속에는
경이에 이끌리는 마음, 어린애와 같은 미지에 대한 탐구심인생에 대한 흥미와 환희가 있다.
